My girlfriend watches Thor for the FIRST time || MCU Phase 1

I love that the people telling me to give the MCU a chance say that the Thor movies kinda bridge the whole thing but NONE OF THEM MAKE ANY SENSE AT THE END! I get they're trying to connect each movie but sacrificing the final third of these movies does not make me want to watch the next one in the "series".

To clarify about the norse gods, Thor is seen as a symbol of strength and is the protector of Midgard (earth). Odin is the Allfather and holds all knowledge, having sacrificed his eye to gain it.

Holden, have you considered following captain America with captain marvel, before watching avengers? I know you'd have to skip the post credits scene, but I personally find Danvers' return more impactful if there is a little more time between films. Don't know what your record schedule is like, but just my 2 cents. :)

Thor is underrated imo hes the best phase 1 character i prefer him to cap and iron man

When I saw the trailer for Captain America in theaters, I thought it corny, and I had no desire to see it, but when Avengers was coming out, I realized I had not seen Thor nor Captain America and I didn't want to miss out on the storyline, so I went and got the DVDs and watched Thor, then Captain America, and then went and saw The Avengers. Watching Captain America was so much like it lept out of the comic book pages, and only Nolan's Batman trilogy had done that for me before, and I was in love with Captain America. I used to be the 5 ft asthmatic 90-pound weakling who was severely bullied growing up at age 12, but I did not have a dose of Super Soldier Serum, but I did inherit my Maternal Grandfather's genetics and shot up to 5'10 by age 14 and grew bigger than the bullies who picked on me and gave them all a comeuppance they deserved in time. So Steve Rogers' character was so close to my own experience, I ended up loving the story. Someone who good, but despised bullies. That was my life. The Russo Brother's really tapped into Captain America being comic book boy fans like I was growing up, and so all his movies were great, and I loved that character more and more as time went on. I like the genius of Tony Stark, but loved the Soul of Steve Rogers as Captain America. I was never a big Iron Man fan in the comics, but Robert Downey Jr gave him life like he never had before, and I loved that too, but Cap was still my favorite. Growing up my favorite DC character was Batman and my favorite Marvel Comics character was Captain America. The best of both worlds.

This first Thor film did the poorest of all the MCU films at the box office because only comic book fans had any knowledge of the character(s) in the film so nobody knew what to expect and of course most people could not follow the story well with the mix of the Asgardian mythos and the Marvel comics alterations which were further altered for the MCU so it was a bit confusing for many and it just never got a really good word of mouth push, plus I think the time of year it was released did not help. Btw., I think the frost giants looked a bit like the Night King from Game of Thrones, but with red eyes instead of blue.

The after-commentary was well worth it- to hear someone describe from a non-comics background the boyscout/Superman dilemma: namely that the stakes and emotions don't exist without some "edge". just dying to see Cap and how he is interpreted, as he has some defined edges
